Lifestyle Changes
While you are working toward losing weight - or if weight loss has been achieved or deemed unnecessary - and you continue to snore, the second set of treatments are habitual or lifestyle changes. First, I always recommend to my patients who snore that they change their body position at night. I find that most people who snore sleep on their backs: Snoring decreases significantly when you sleep on your side and almost goes away entirely if you can learn to sleep on your stomach. By making this simple change, you’ll find that your snoring may improve dramatically.
There have been various contraptions sold over the years that will gently remind you to get off your back. You can also try to kick this habit by wearing a pocket T-shirt or dress shirt to bed with the breast pocket on your back. Place a tennis ball in the pocket, and lie down on your side. During the night, if you roll over on your back, you’ll instantly feel the ball, making it uncomfortable to sleep on your back, and you will shift your position to either your side or your stomach.
