Fungal allergies may be a result of extensive exposure to mold and fungi in the environment. This can be due to both wet surfaces and more energy-efficient homes with less air exchange. All molds can affect the breathing system by causing two distinct internal reactions, either an immunologic inflammatory reaction or an allergic reaction. Many patients suffer both simultaneously. The allergic reaction occurs in the same manner as it occurs when allergic people are exposed to pollens and dusts.
